Once four o’clock starts, something magical happens. Mario Ybarra Jr. and some of the other slanguage artists begin to act funny. Perhaps it’s the lure that five o’clock is just around the corner and the day is almost over, perhaps it’s the time to really create, perform, to make things up, and to play! Here are some of the four o’clock funnies captured raw…enjoy!

Mario Ybarra Jr. and the Popusa raper

Boom! I got your boyfriend!

avalon boulevard

avalon boulevard once canal street…palm trees swaying in the so cal heat…blue skies crissed crossed with chemical trails…telephone poles covered in staples and rusty nails… from all the fiesta posters and yard sale signs…black top painted with white and yellow broken lines…cars, trucks and busses move north and south…feeding the port of Los Angeles and its ever hungry mouth….like a river it never stops flowing… shallow then deep…shrinking then growing….avalon was once the island of arthurian mythology…now it is part of our everyday psychology….

anaheim boulevard

anaheim boulevard runs east and west…the tacos and the beer put your panza to the test…new car dealerships used to line the street…now it is your route to la pulga or sunday swap meet….parades of people have witnessed its glory…ask your abuelita she will tell you a story…of how your abuelo used to wait for the bus… go to work early in the morning to make money for us…how we bought the house when your tio went to vietnam…and how that boy was killed but his face was so calm…so don’t you forget that germanic sounding word…anaheim boulevard remembers all those stories you heard…

slanguage studio is the word on the streets…from ghetto pawn shops to barrio indoor swap meets…you know we got the skills so go tell to your gente…con dinero o sin dinero sigo siendo el rey like chente…so all you slangstas better come clean…use your imagination when you are on the scene…all other crews better eat your wheaties…cuz we will slash and cap your lame graffitis…
